No to NATO Initiative
Saying No to NATO is not only an objection to the existence of a military pact; it is the will to build a world without war and exploitation where peoples live in solidarity.
The "No to NATO Initiative" was established at the invitation of the Workers Party of Turkey (TIP) to strengthen the unity of international peace forces against imperialist aggression.
Who Founded It and Why?
As socialists in Turkey and progressive people worldwide, we raise our voices against massive armament budgets being used for destruction instead of people's welfare.
With 77 years of history as the largest military pact in the world, NATO has acted not as a defense organization but as a mechanism of threat since its founding in 1949.
Our Objections
War Budgets: At the NATO Summit to be held in Turkey in July 2026, member states are expected to raise defense spending to 5%. We oppose this war budget and advocate allocating public resources to social welfare.
Destabilization and Operations: We believe this mechanism, which has played a role in destruction from Afghanistan to Libya and has intervened in member states through structures such as Gladio, must be dissolved.
Complicity: Against NATO's special partnership with Israel since 1994 and its military support for massacres in Palestine, we defend international law and human dignity.
Roadmap: 2026
- Global Anti-Militarist Webinar: On April 4, 2026, we will gather online with peace advocates from around the world.
- Anti-NATO People's Summit: In July 2026, while NATO leaders gather in Turkey, we will gather at the People's Summit to concretely express our will to end military pacts.
